Polished concrete floors in Bunbury and the South West

Clutch Construction polishes concrete floors for homes, shops and workshops in Bunbury and the South West of Western Australia. It is a specialist finish, and it is the work people search for most.
How it works
A polished floor is made by grinding the slab with diamond abrasives, starting coarse and working through finer grits. A densifier hardens the surface, and a sealer protects it. The grind depth sets how much of the sand and stone shows, from a smooth cream finish to full aggregate. The final grit sets the sheen, from satin to high gloss.

What you get
- A hard, dense floor with no tiles, grout or coverings to replace.
- A choice of sheen and aggregate exposure, agreed before we start.
- One crew from the slab through to the finished surface, so the pour and the polish suit each other.
If you are building new, tell us early. A slab poured with polishing in mind finishes better than one that is ground back later.

Homes and businesses
In homes, polished concrete suits living areas, garages and benchtops. See residential floors for how we approach a house. For shops, showrooms and offices, see commercial floors.

Not sure whether you want polished, honed or burnished? Our finish comparison sets them side by side.
Before you start
A polished floor shows what is in the slab. Joints, small cracks, patched areas and variations in colour stay visible, and some add to the character. We walk the floor with you first, point out what will show and agree on what to repair. Floors that have carried paint, glue or old coatings need those removed first, which affects the time and the result.

Common questions
- How much do polished concrete floors cost?
- It depends on the floor area, the condition of the slab, how deep the grind has to go and the sheen you want. We quote after hearing the details, and a photo of the slab helps.
- Is polished concrete slippery?
- A high-gloss floor can be slippery when wet. For wet or outdoor areas we suggest a honed finish instead, and we can talk through the right sheen for indoor floors.
- Can you polish my existing slab?
- Often, yes, if the slab is sound. Cracks, patches and old coatings change the result, so we look at the floor before we promise a finish.
- How do I look after a polished floor?
- Sweep or dust-mop, and mop with a pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid acidic cleaners, which can dull the surface.
